Are there frequently asked questions for between appointments that staff can answer for you?

Dr. Amy Nett: We’re working on that. We have frequently asked questions for certain supplements and for certain labs. The staff tries to buffer these questions, but our staff doesn’t have any medical training. They’re wonderful admin support staff, but they don’t have the experience with the supplements and the medications, I think, to feel comfortable answering a lot of questions about dosing. Some things they do just get used to, like they know where to find the information and can sort of direct the patient. We definitely are working on finding all of the resources that we can, and I think eventually hopefully we’re going to bring in a PA or another practitioner who has some medical training who can actually help with all of the questions that come in through the portal. It’s such a different environment than what I grew up in and when I went to medical school. I would never talk to my doctor in between appointments. It’s kind of interesting, and I think we’re figuring out how to make that work and also learning and trying to decide where to set boundaries, because of course, with more anxious patients … I have some patients who send me a message probably every other day, and that’s kind of too much, so also we’re trying to figure out what our portal policy is, what’s reasonable, what the staff can answer. It’s still a work in progress for us, definitely. Yeah, we’re working on it.
