Dr. Amy Nett: I’m not sure if it is even necessary. I probably don’t know enough about dental surgery. I often work with a Functional Medicine dentist in the area, and so I rely a lot on her, and I think that’s a case-by-case basis because I have had patients who would do testing of the oral microbiome, and there are cases where I have prescribed antibiotics to address that. I don’t think I have enough expertise in the dental field. I would probably refer to a Functional Medicine dentist, but I would say generally there are indications for antibiotics in the setting of surgery, yes.
