Chris Kresser: Next from Chi, “Can you tell me the functional range for active B12 holotranscobalamin, or holoTC?”
We don’t really have a functional range for that because it’s already a functional marker, basically. It’s the only marker that can detect stage I and II B12 depletion. It’s not really even technically B12, depletion would be the accurate term. If you’re fortunate enough to have access to that marker, which you are because I believe you’re in the UK, then just using the lab range, and maybe even tightening that by 10 to 15 percent if you want, would be a good start because, like I said, it’s already kind of detecting functional depletion of B12. I wish we had that in the US. It would definitely make my life easier, and the US-based clinicians’ lives easier, but we don’t. I don’t have much experience with the marker.
