Do you see patients with autism spectrum disorder in your practice?

Chris: I do. Usually I see kids only over two years old, but occasionally I’ll make an exception. Just this morning I got an application from a little guy who is, well he didn’t fill it out of course, his parents. He’s 17 months old and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum and they’re looking for an alternative to the conventional way of approaching this. I really enjoy working with this population. It’s challenging, but it’s very rewarding when we’re able to identify some underlying causes like gut issues, nutrient deficiencies, and toxins like heavy metals or other toxins, impaired detox capacity, where we’re able to identify and address some of those things, get these kids on a really clean diet. The changes that can happen are almost miraculous. Of course, that’s not always the case. We’re not able to help every kid that comes through, but they can be quite significant and life-changing for both the kids and the parents. Mostly I see kids on the spectrum. I do have a few teens, young adult, and even a couple older adults on the autism spectrum, but I haven’t had this much success working with adults on the autism spectrum as I have with kids.
