Chris Kresser: Next question from Ariel, “How do you judge when even prolonged periods of inflammation are supporting [the] body’s healing process? Are we ever in danger of interfering with the natural healing process by administering botanical anti-inflammatories like curcumin and boswellia?”

I don’t think so. A situation that comes to mind, curcumin acts as a blood thinner, so we want to avoid that after someone’s just recovering from surgery, but again, these botanicals work more in a modulatory fashion. They’re not like pred [25:29] or ibuprofen. I think they are much safer to take over a long period and I’m not aware of that many processes where inflammation would be involved over a really extended period of time in a healthy productive way rather than a pathological way.
