Dr. Amy Nett: Yeah, this is a great question. You’re saying low levels of beneficial bacteria, but there’s yeast overgrowth. I’m going to assume that SIBO breath test is normal, so no SIBO and no pathogenic bacteria that we know of. I think there are a couple of options in this case. I agree. I probably would not use GI-Synergy. The options I would think about would be … First of all, for low lacto and bifido, definitely get the PHGG, the partially hydrolyzed guar gum. Get prebiotics in there because, remember, PHGG increases levels of lacto and bifido, so get all the prebiotics in there that they can tolerate. In terms of decreasing yeast overgrowth, you could do Lauricidin. You could do A-FNG, and I would probably do the combination of A-FNG and Lauricidin. I might also add in Yeastonil. Yeastonil is also from Apex Energetics, and GI-Synergy contains the herbs that are in Yeastonil. It’s more targeted to only addressing the yeast overgrowth. So I would probably do Yeastonil, Lauricidin, A-FNG, and then I might also still throw in a biofilm disruptor, so maybe still throw in the InterFase Plus, and then the probiotics for good measure, along with the PHGG.
Another option to consider, depending on what the patient is open to, you could also do nystatin or Diflucan. I would say it depends a little bit what their manifestations look like, but you might consider the option and how long this has been an issue, but I would think about doing something like nystatin as well. Nystatin is fairly safe. There’s not a lot of systemic absorption, so you could think about that one, as well.
Then you just asked, “What dose on Yeastonil?” Oh, good question. We have a database, so I don’t put in the doses regularly. One capsule twice daily with meals. For Yeastonil, you would be dosing it in place of the GI-Synergy, so one capsule with breakfast, one capsule with dinner. And then just like with the antimicrobial protocol, I would probably do InterFase Plus about an hour beforehand, and Lauricidin still do at all three meals.
