I’m having trouble treating gout. Aware of the fructose component per the course. I’ve also read about allopurinol, and it seems like the only way to go.

Chris Kresser: Different patients will respond differently. I mean, I think from a functional perspective, ultimately what I’ve seen is if you correct underlying metabolic dysfunction and help the patient lose weight and become more insulin sensitive and glucose tolerant, which can take a while, so it’s not going to resolve overnight, then usually the gout can be addressed without worrying too much about allopurinol and about fructose consumption, excess fructose or fructose in liquid form certainly, but not fructose in whole foods like fruits. I generally do have success with it, but it’s definitely not an overnight thing.
