Chris Kresser: Amy says, “Re: Justin’s questions. Keep in mind, not all of us in this practitioner training group are practitioners. I’m a nurse and can coach, but can prescribe or order labs. I’d love to connect with like-minded practitioners. I can’t find many in my local area.”
Yes, good point. Networking and connecting people are two of the top items on our agenda at Kresser Institute right now. I’ve mentioned before we’re thinking about live events. We’re also trying to figure out ways of getting people together with local meet-ups and even online. It’s pretty easy with health coaches, to be honest, but it’s a lot harder for practitioners. We have just found that the level of engagement with practitioners is a lot lower. I don’t know whether they tend to be, maybe, already established in their careers whereas people training as a health coach might be either re-entering the workforce or switching careers, so they [have] a little bit more time and they’re more engaged on that level or whether it’s just the kind of personality type that’s drawn to being a practitioner versus a health coach. I’m not totally sure, but it’s been a little bit more of a challenge. As you can see with these Q&As, we have about 100 people in the program and about 10 to 15 show up for the live call, whereas in the health coaching program, we might have a couple hundred students and 175 show up for the live call. It’s just a different level of engagement and more of a challenge for us in terms of networking, how we try to encourage that level of connection and engagement, but we’re going to keep trying for sure.
