Ramesh says, “The SIBO protocol is quite intensive in terms of supplement requirements. Do you have issues with compliance?”

Chris: I typically don’t because patients who get to me already have been around the block quite a few times. But yes, it can be a lot of moving parts, and in some cases, people just prefer to start with the rifaximin and neomycin if they have methane overgrowth. We offer them that option. We tell people that we think botanicals are a better starting place, a little bit safer, and less likely to cause any adverse effect, but it takes longer, and it’s a lot more to manage. Some people choose to just go ahead with the pharmaceutical approach, and that’s fine. We try to work with patients and give them options based on what makes sense to them. Other patients, we have some patients who just don’t want to take antibiotics no matter what, so that’s how it is, and so I thought we just had to meet people where they are.
