What supplements would you recommend for reactive hypoglycemia?

Amy Nett: You know, I don’t. Reactive hypoglycemia. I’m normally going to be thinking about the adrenal glands. I don’t know that there’s any one supplement for reactive hypoglycemia. I mean, I think a lot more about diet and lifestyle, i.e., adrenal. I would say, number one for reactive hypoglycemia, evaluate and treat the adrenals, cortisol specifically. Reactive hypoglycemia can actually be associated with low cortisol levels, so the person is not able to kind of manage those blood sugar loads. You might need to think about a high protein and either kind of adequate fat or high fat. You could even try ketogenic diet in some of these patients, but really focusing on protein and fat. Avoiding, definitely removing any simple sugars, probably removing any refined carbohydrates, and then seeing how do patients do with some of the more complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes, yams, plantains. But think about what do you need to do in terms of diet for stabilizing that blood sugar.

I would kind of wonder here is the reactive hypoglycemia, like, what does this diet look like, what foods are triggering that? But you could again think about starting with some adrenal support. I would ideally test so you know what you’re treating there for the adrenals. Also, look at, as always, look at the gut and look at toxic metals. I would even think at this point, we have the Great Plains environmental toxin profile, and that’s another way to understand is there a toxic burden and that’s contributing to this reactive hypoglycemia.

Again, underlying causes, I think there have been some studies that have suggested the gut microbial imbalances can contribute, as can the toxic metals. As I just mentioned for the other question about GlucoSupreme, I was mentioning that her blood sugar control, you need to have adequate zinc, vanadium, chromium; magnesium is another one that’s really important. If these minerals get either too high or too low, these can be problematic, so really looking for balance. Think about nutrient support for the reactive hypoglycemia, but more really work on diet and kind of the stress or adrenal piece for reactive hypoglycemia.
