Chi asked a question about the Genova SIBO breath test not being offered in the UK.
Chris: There are a few that I recommend now, so let me just say this to clarify. There’s Genova, there is the BioHealth #900-C, which uses the updated consensus criteria. There is the Aerodiagnostics lab that I think is very good as well, and there’s NUNM, which is still a good lab. I don’t love that they’re not using an updated criteria, but it’s still a great lab in terms of their methodology. I think they’re a bit slow, and I find their service to be lacking, but I prefer Genova and BioHealth for that reason, but those are the options. If none of those are available, then yes, if you found a lab that is using QuinTron, that’s the proper machine to be using, and they’re doing three hours, they’re measuring both methane and hydrogen, which you indicated, then that should be fine.
You might want to ask them what the timing increment they’re using is, whether they’re providing a value at 90 minutes or whether they’re doing the 20, 40, 60, 80 in 20-minute durations that way, but it’s fine. You can still infer the 90-minute value if you have the 80- and 100-minute. So yes, I think that would be perfectly fine.
