Dr. Amy Nett: Oh, this is a great question. I asked Chris on this one because in medical school we had a biostatistics course with some textbooks, and they weren’t particularly exciting, so I don’t know if I have great resources that I particularly enjoyed using. Chris’s recommendation was to consider a research methodology class, like at a community college or online. Chris also didn’t have a book that he particularly felt strongly about in terms of recommending, so I apologize that we don’t have a great resource for learning biostatistics. You might be able to get book lists for medical school courses, and you can see what they’re using. There are different series of books that get used in medical school, and I vaguely remember having sort of a quick “what you absolutely need to know for biostatistics” kind of book that at least got the information across. If you have a medical school library nearby, you could see what books they have, or if there’s a university nearby. Or see if there’s a local college or online course in terms of learning what you want to learn about medical statistics. And if you find a good resource, let us know so we can pass it on to other people.
