If the hydrogen and methane gases produced by small intestinal bacterial overgrowth are being absorbed by the blood and then exhaled by the lungs, are they traveling up through the digestive tract?

Dr. Amy Nett: The hydrogen and methane we’re measuring are basically produced in the GI tract and traveling up the digestive tract, so we’re measuring the gases that are produced in the GI tract. That’s what’s being measured.
