Dr. Amy Nett: I have a lot of questions about the Genova stool testing, and Chris went into some more detail this past week about the different methodologies that are used. I don’t know how reliable Genova stool testing is, so it’s difficult for me to answer that. You’re saying that you’ve had good experience in using the Genova GI Effects, so maybe there is some value there. I haven’t used it as much, so I probably don’t have the experience with the Genova GI Effects stool testing. We use both Doctor’s Data and BioHealth. Unfortunately, both of those companies do require a clinician to order the stool testing, so patients cannot order directly. If the only option you have is Genova, it probably is better than nothing, but I would just be aware that it does have a potentially higher rate of false positives and false negatives, and I’d be more concerned probably about the false negatives there. Just take it with a grain of salt and remind patients that testing is never perfect and you also have to look at clinical symptoms overall.
