What are your thoughts on about the Prometheus IBD serology? It seems much more comprehensive than the Quest panel.

Chris Kresser:  I’m not familiar with that, so I’d have to look into it. I assume you’re talking about the ANCA, the antibody panel for detecting IBD that we talked about in the gut unit, but I’d have to look at the Prometheus IBD serology. The thing is, the serology should never be a replacement for something like an MRE, which is magnetic resonance enterography of the pelvis and abdomen. It’s less invasive than a colonoscopy and it’s about 92 percent to 93 percent specific, so false negatives are pretty unlikely. The serology could be a middle step as we talked about between fecal calprotectin, lactoferrin, lysozyme, and an MRE. It may be actually even helpful for getting the patient’s insurance to approve an MRE because sometimes that’s difficult.

I see Dalit says it also combines some genetic testing. So it sounds like Prometheus IBD panel is a good option. Thank you for making me aware of that, Dalit. I’ll definitely check it out. Maybe you could share it on the Facebook group too if you’re in the Facebook group.
