What are your thoughts about keeping glucose at a stable level of 83 in diabetic patients, which is what’s recommended by Doctor Bernstein of the Diabetes Solution?

Chris Kresser:  You know, I haven’t seen a lot of evidence to support that actually. In the Accord study, a-c-c-o-r-d, actually had results that really threw into question the whole idea of super-intensive glucose regulation in diabetics. Certainly I think we need to aim for keeping blood sugar levels as low as possible, but I’m not sure about the extremes that Doctor Bernstein recommends. I know he has an enormous amount of clinical experience, I really respect his work, and he may be right for all I know. But I just have struggled to find the support for that in the scientific literature and then the lengths that patients have to go to achieve that, and often requiring drugs. And my experience make me wonder about it as well.
