  4. About methane-predominant SIBO. I attended the June SIBO conference, and all of the practitioners who use botanicals all use high-dose allicin for methane, apparently based on research. I keep hearing that methane will not respond to other potentials if allicidin is not included, usually in high doses of 450 mg capsules up to six per day. I’m very interested in why this whole group of practitioners has a consensus that this must be used for methane, yet we don’t use it. What do you think about this?

Dr. Amy Nett: That is interesting. Let’s see. I don’t know. I tried to watch some of that conference, but I wasn’t able to see all of that, so I don’t know if you’re saying allicidin specifically or just allicin. GI-Synergy, let’s see—I mean, GI-Synergy has garlic extract, which is standardized to 1 percent allicin. I think, Laura, I think the spellcheck kind of messed you up there. It says “allicon,” so I think you mean allicin. So, they’re saying they use high doses of allicin maybe, and spellcheck just corrected that for you to something really weird. GI-Synergy contains allicin. It’s a proprietary blend, so I don’t know the exact amount of allicin, but we do include allicin in GI-Synergy. Again, I think, you know, and this might be something to do. One of us might be able to call Apex Energetics and see if we can get the dose of allicin, but allicin is very effective in the treatment of methane-predominant SIBO. We are using allicin. We might not be using it necessarily in the 450 mg capsules. Again, I don’t know the exact dose, unfortunately, of allicin that is included in GI-Synergy, but at this point, we see methane-predominant SIBO responding pretty well to GI-Synergy. I would say we’re seeing improvement. There is allicin. Whether or not it’s in that exact dose, I’m not really sure, but I do think allicin is definitely helpful in the treatment of methane-predominant SIBO. I would agree with that, absolutely.
