Chris Kresser: Yes, that is true. I actually prefer Longvida or liposomal forms of curcumin at this point, even over Meriva. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I need to update the HCAP accordingly.
We talked a little bit about different forms of curcumin in the gut unit, in the autoimmune section where I talked about curcumin as a remedy for inflammatory bowel disease and just inflammation in the gut in general. There’s a lot of research on different forms of curcumin and their bioavailability. Unfortunately a lot of the research that’s done is small studies and they’re primarily sponsored by the companies that are selling those forms of nutrients. There’s some pretty heated debate about the bioavailability of the different forms and what other considerations there are beyond just pure bioavailability, like the biological activity of various curcuminoids, but I’ve used pretty much all the different forms now, and from my experience anecdotally, the liposomal forms and the Longvida forms have been the most effective. The Longvida can be found in CurcuBrain from NOW, and ProHealth has an Optimized Curcumin Longvida, and then the liposomal form. Seeking Health [Optimal Liposomal Curcumin] is a good brand, but there are others, as well.
