[Should] I consider shrimp as [a] worthwhile shellfish?

Chris Kresser: Carol asked, “[Should] I consider shrimp as [a] worthwhile shellfish?”

Not from a nutrient-density perspective. There’s nothing wrong with it, but oysters and clams. Clams are even higher in iron than liver. If someone’s iron-deficient, clams can be phenomenal. Oysters are the highest dietary source of zinc and copper. In fact, I think a single serving of oysters can meet the entire week’s need for zinc. Shrimp doesn’t really get close with any of those nutrients, so it’s not quite as beneficial from that perspective. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it’s not going to have quite the impact there.
