Dr. Amy Nett: After we do an antimicrobial treatment, we just do a combination of prebiotics and probiotics. You might think about increasing the number of prebiotics, and again, variety is probably better, so let’s say they’re tolerating PHGG well. You could do PHGG, and then you might add something like Bioptigen, which contains things like fructooligosaccharide, larch arabinogalactan, and inulin. You could add some resistant starch, so maybe they’re eating cooked-and-cooled white potatoes or cooked-and-cooled white rice, or maybe you want to add potato starch or green banana flour. The more variety, probably the better, so I would just have people gradually increase both quantity and variety of prebiotics and then have people continue maybe two to three different probiotics, and I would probably do a more intense focus on prebiotics and probiotics for about two to three months.
