Dr. Amy Nett: Efficacy is an interesting one. That would be great, but I think, unfortunately, symptoms and treatments are so variable, it would be hard to rate things based on efficacy. I don’t know that there are really websites that do this. What I would recommend is using companies you trust, like Thorne, Pure Encapsulations, Designs for Health, Integrative Therapeutics, companies that have a pretty high standard, and more or less, stick with supplements from those companies. You can use Emerson. Emerson has some rating system, where they’ll put next to the product gold label, silver label, and that can be useful, as well, if you’re not familiar with the supplements. In general, the companies, though, that I just mentioned—Thorne, Designs for Health, Pure Encapsulations, Integrative Therapeutics—those are pretty good options. NOW brand can also be a pretty good option that’s available in most local health food stores, relatively affordable. I would say it’s probably best just to stick with the brands you know, but I don’t know of websites beyond Emerson and places that sell them that sort of evaluate supplements by any certain criteria.
