Chris: Yes, I am. In fact, we get A2 milk from a local farmer here in Santa Rosa who lives about an hour away. The idea here is that A2 milk— some cow produce milk that has mostly A2 proteins, and those cows tend to be like the Jersey cows, which are more popular in Europe and elsewhere in the world, versus the holstein cows that are popular in the United States that produced A1 protein in their milk. The A1 protein is thought to be more antigenic and more likely to cause problems than the A2 protein. When I looked into the research on this, I didn’t find a lot of information that confirm this, but I can definitely tell you that anecdotally, including with my wife, I don’t drink milk regardless of the proteins, but my wife does, and she notices a big difference when she drinks A2 milk. Even with our daughter, I think she does better with A2 milk than A1 milk. Even though there doesn’t seem to be a lot of peer reviewed research to support that, anecdotally, I have seen even in my own family and also with patients a difference. The problem is A2 milk is pretty hard to come by. You have to have a farmer who specifically knows about this and who is acquiring Jersey cows or other cows that produce the same milk and having those cows genetically tested because you can’t just do it by the breed of the cow. You actually have to test to see what’s going on.
