Do you have a preference for specific rectal probiotics in IBD?

Chris Kresser:  Not usually. I’ll have patients experiment with different ones. Soil-based organisms, some of the lactic acid-based probiotics, although Lactobacillus, from what I understand, is more typically found in the terminal ileum, the upper part of the colon, so I’m not sure about that as much. The high-potency combo products like VSL #3 can be helpful, especially because you can get it in a powder and it’s easy to put in there. A lot of the same probiotics we would use orally are the ones that we use for rectal implants.
