How often do you see problems related to the MMC, migrating motor complex, in cases of SIBO? Do you think it’s important to supplement after negative testing for it?

Dr. Amy Nett: Supplementing for migrating motor complex and motility—if that’s the question, I think you have to wait and see after you treat SIBO if you can actually restore normal GI motility. For a lot of people, SIBO might come about in part due to injury to the normal migrating motor complex or otherwise difficulty with motility, but oftentimes after treatment you’ll actually see a restoration of normal GI motility. That’s one of the reasons we don’t always feel that we need to do a prokinetic, and you may not need a prokinetic long term.
