Do you see the volume of probiotic makes a difference in treating someone with no-growth Lactobacilli and yeast overgrowth on CSAP in the Doctor’s Data test, for example?

Chris Kresser:  Good question. The number of colony forming units is only one consideration in the efficacy of a probiotic. There are many others such as the delivery system, strain, whether it’s a single strain or multiple strains, or whether there is also a prebiotic substrate for the probiotics to feed on, the patient’s particular circumstances. In some situations, I definitely do recommend the higher-dose probiotics like the VSL, Elixa, and Visbiome. We have a whole section of the gut presentation on probiotics and probiotics where I mention which probiotics and products should be used and which particular situation, so hang tight for that.
