Supplements

I have a couple of patients coming to see me for GI issues, H. pylori, parasites, Candida, and they become constipated when taking Prescript Assist one to two per day or MegaSporeBiotic one to two per day. They do not get constipated with lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium-based probiotics or Saccharomyces. The patients report their stool becomes pencil shaped or a rabbit poop rounded ball shape and difficult to eliminate. What does it mean and do you recommend for them to continue those probiotics? I know these two are in the core protocol, and I want them to continue. I just want to know why they get constipated. What other supplements are okay to take along with the core and additional botanical treatment protocol? Can vitamins and supplements like vitamin D, B complex, magnesium and zinc be taken during the 30 to 60 days of the protocols, and are there any supplements that are contraindicated?

Dr. Amy Nett: Good question. I don’t know that I’ve seen any contraindications to using melatonin in patients with an...

How soon should I prescribe HCl with enzymes after completing H. pylori botanical treatment. This particular patient had an ulcer in the past. Should I just give enzymes without HCl? She’s 68.

Dr. Amy Nett: I would see how she does using enzymes without HCl. Otherwise, if the test comes back negative...

For the treatment protocol using Helicobacter pylori, sulforaphane, DGL, mastic gum, S. boulardii, cranberry juice, if these are all added to the core botanical protocol, this makes it at least 10 different pills, scoops, powders, foods that need to be taken. What’s your experience with individuals willing to do this, and what’s the expense for a 30-day treatment?

Dr. Amy Nett: My experience with patients doing this protocol is actually pretty good. I’m often really impressed by our...

In the GERD treatment protocol, betaine HCl is contraindicated for someone taking a corticosteroid. Does this include inhaled corticosteroids?

Dr. Amy Nett: This a little bit tricky. Of course, remember that corticosteroids increase the risk of gastric ulcers. If...
