Patient taking the two capsules of HCl each meal for a prolonged time causes thinning of the stomach lining. This patient had H. pylori got treated by triple-antibiotic therapy 12 years ago, got breath tests and stool tests by Genova and an endoscopy procedure done a few years later as a follow-up. No more acid reflux after the antibiotic treatment but still not able to consume tomatoes or vinegar, even apple cider vinegar, and feels heavy in the stomach after eating meat. She started taking two capsules of HCl for two years but started having the same duodenal ulcer pain she had years ago. Are you going to cover treatment for duodenal ulcer possibly caused by H. pylori and antibiotic therapy?

Chris Kresser:  HCl on its own, two capsules especially, I’ve never seen any evidence suggesting that it causes thinning of...

What are your thoughts on high-dose probiotics such as 500 billion a day for a month versus something more reasonable 12 to 20 billion per day? Do you see the volume of probiotic makes a difference in treating someone with no-growth Lactobacilli and yeast overgrowth on CSAP in the Doctor’s Data test, for example?

Chris Kresser:  Good question. The number of colony forming units is only one consideration in the efficacy of a probiotic....

If a patient gets up to 12 capsules of HCl and doesn’t feel the burning sensation, should they continue?

Chris Kresser:  I hope I mentioned this in the content, but maybe I didn’t, in which case, I should definitely...

Reading on what periodontists might do, cut their gums, clean things up, pull the tissue back down, it seems very intense. Do you have anything I can tell this patient to do to improve gum health without the specialist?

Chris Kresser:  Certainly. A lot of the same things that we would do to improve overall health, improve gum health,...

For patients that routinely fast for longer than just overnight or 18 hours, what changes to the botanical SIBO protocols does one make? Is it correct to say that two specific considerations are number one, no digestive enzymes if not taking MBL? Second part of the question. Should the patient, take all other supplements, even though not taking any food, at about five times a day as depicted in the handout or week 10’s antimicrobial protocol PDF sample day slide?

Chris Kresser:  Yes to both parts of your question The only downside of fasting to the protocols is that in...
